Membership is free; there are no obligations to make any purchases; your personal information is password protected and never shared with anyone; and you will NOT be bombarded with e-mails by joining.
Every member is given a personalized start page, where you can enter the surnames you are researching and use quick links to see matching resources on our site and across the Internet.
Members may also create bookmarks for any resource published or referenced on our site, as well as, specific records in our databases, making it easy to track when information is updated.
In addition, these membership accounts are used to provide secure access for our affiliate, merchant, writing and data entry programs.
February 6, 2001: Members can now add bookmarks to pages in our databases or on other sites, and profile specific ancestors in the new Lost & Found database [now called My Queries] in the Research section.
June 26, 2002: Members now benefit from the integration of Return Path's ECOA (e-mail change of address) service into the Team Roots system. Return Path helps keep our database of genealogical researchers up-to-date.
September 2, 2002: Members can now track their purchases in our marketplace in the Purchases section. If items do not arrive in the time period specified, you may initiate an inquiry that will be sent directly to the appropriate merchant partner.
October 1, 2003: We've added enhanced calendaring tools, including a reminder tool to help keep track of birthdays, anniversaries or other important events.
December 12, 2003: Members can now access and contribute to the Missing Persons Register. This resource helps people get in touch with people they may have lost contact with, a friend, a neighbor, a relative, an old classmate.
April 20, 2004: Membership accounts are now being used to provide access to our subscription products. A listing of your subscriptions appears in the Purchases section.
November 4, 2004: We've added the following new features to the Research section: My Brick Walls (private queries), a Correspondence Log and a Research Journal.
December 12, 2005: Members who have uploaded their family tree to the Internet and included a gendex.txt file can share the details and have their tree indexed by Genealogy Today.
March 1, 2007: The favorites (a.k.a. bookmarks) feature originally launched in 2001 has been upgraded to allow for notes to be added to the bookmarks. In addition, search results will now be bookmarkable.
April 11, 2007: Several query services, including First Name Basis and Family Tree Climbers, have been combined into a single (fully-searchable) forum for members.
