White Oaks Mine, 1930, Overview

The mine is located in Sections 31 and 32, Township 6 South, Range 13 East, and is owned and operated by the New Mexico Light and Power Company, with John McGregor, general manager, Chicago, Ill. and John E. Wright, general superintendent, Carrizozo, New Mexico. The mine is operated primarily to furnish fuel for the power plant which is located at the mine. Seven men were employed in the mine and one man on top for 212 days during the year and mined 1,226 tons of coal. The power plant used 845 tons and 381 tons were sold to the local consumers for $2,286.00. The mine is opened by a slope and worked on the room and pillar plan. Rope haulage is used.
