The Periodical Source Index, PERSI, is the largest and most widely used subject index to genealogical and local history periodicals, published over the past 200 years. Such periodicals may include magazines, newsletters, journals, etc. PERSI is an index only and does not include the original material; however, information is provided to aid researchers in locating materials. Articles can also be ordered for a nominal fee through the Allen County Public Library, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, which manages the database.
PERSI is a highly valuable genealogy resource. Genealogy periodicals contain a wealth of information: thousands of articles are written every year on a wide variety of topics. Researchers can search for articles on specific persons or families, localities, occupations, etc. PERSI also includes how-to information on a variety of genealogy-related topics. PERSI is available through many libraries and Family History Centers, and on the Internet.
