The International Genealogical Index (IGI) is a databases of genealogical information submitted by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS), over the course of many years. The information contained in the IGI comes from a variety of sources, and the Index contains many duplicates as distant family members submitted information, independent of each other.
A valuable genealogical resource, rich in information spanning generations from the 1500s through the 1900s, it is important to note that information contained in the IGI, like any other compiled, secondary source, should be verified. The IGI can be researched at FamilySearch.org.
