Harrison, Anna Symmes, 1927, Biographical Sketch

MRS. ANNA SYMMES HARRISON, wife of the President and grandmother of another, was making ready to join her husband in Washington when the news of his death reached her. During his brief incumbency, the White House was presided over by Mrs. Jane Findlay Irwin Harrison, wife of the President's second son, Colonel W. H. Harrison, Jr. Mrs. Harrison, a native of New Jersey, and the daughter of a soldier in the Revolutionary Army and Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court, outlived her husband by a quarter of a century, despite the years of hard toil and frontier life which she had shared with her husband.
